Hooded Merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus)

Native to northwestern and eastern North America, "hoodies" are sexually dimorphic, seasonally variable.  The drakes weigh 1.5 pounds and the hens a bit smaller, at 1.2 pounds.  Hens lay 8-15 pure white eggs and nest in cavities high in trees or boxes down to ground crevices near water.
