Hottentot Teal (Anas punctata)

Among the tiniest dabblers in the world, this breed comes from southeastern Africa.  The sexes are similar, with the drakes slightly larger at 8 ounces, the hens weighing a scant 7.7 ounces.  Hens lay 6-9 light brown-cream colored eggs.  They prefer nest cups in a dome of vegetation or a tunnel crevice near water.
