Wood Duck (Aix sponsa)

A North American native, the "woodie" is sexually dimorphic, seasonally variable.  Drakes average 1.5 pounds and hens a smaller 1.2 pounds.  The hen lays 9-15 dull-white, light brownish eggs.  She nests readily in tree cavities or nest boxes near water.
